Scarab

16.11.06.337

Information

Steatite scarab seal with fine details of the head, wings and legs on the back, and flat base inscribed with the cartouche of Thutmose III (Menkheperra) surrounded by 'ra nb' (every day), Nsw-Bity (King of Upper and Lower Egypt), a 'mn' sign with three sun-discs below and one sun-disc on the right, and a sphinx. Pierced through the length for threading. Chipped around the base and sides with much of the green glaze now worn off. Recorded as being from tomb 16 E '06. There is a drawing of the underside in the excavation archives (by Percy Newberry?). Despite the low number of the tomb, tomb 16 is clearly recorded as being excavated in the 1906 season, rather than 1905.
