Scarab seal

Currently not on display

Scarab of mottled red and white chalcedony, the scarab beetle form rendered schematically. Engraved scene in plain line border (perhaps worn traces of rope-pattern): a male figure bends over an animal skin to the left. The man appears nude except for a helmet-like head-covering, and a line across his buttocks: a schematic version of Hercle/Herakles wearing the Nemean lion-skin. His right (back) leg is bent sharply at the knee in a dancing pose.
