Sceptre or Staff

Luba kings, chiefs and titleholders have staffs of office that serve as sources of memory and inspiration, as well as being items of regalia. The female figures at the top of such staffs have been described by some Luba narrators as ‘kings’, whose spirits are carried in women’s bodies.
