Sculpture (Forgery)

Information

Forgery of a male figure wearing a collar of beads. His naked appearance would suggest this is a young boy rather than an adult male. Left leg is missing. Tenon on right foot for attachment to a base. Without any archaeological provenance it is hard to not categorise this as a forgery. Previously in the collection of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum with a label "3. Ivory statue from group. XIX Dyn". Source recorded as "from Mr Thompson's office, 1925", which is the same for about a dozen small sculptures like this. Further research is required. It is similar to some excavated examples of poor quality craftsmanship and so may well be genuine.
