Sculpture (Forgery)

Head of a male. On the back of the head is an annotation in red "P VI 20" (a reference to an auction catalogue); a rectangular sticker with serrated edge and printed number "204"; a round sticker with "92/13 in pencil". A forgery illustrated in the 1906 sale catalogue of the Robert de Rustafjaell collection, sold at Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge auction house (pl. VI.20). Sold at Sotheby's 1906, 19-21 Dec Lot 92/13: Figure of a man seated, his left leg bent beneath him, white marble, modern (plate VI,4); and various heads, etc. from statues or figures, in marble and stone.
