Sculpture of a Man

Fragment of the lower portion of a male head from a sculpture. Donated to Cheltenham College by the Cheltenham Philosophical Institution. Notes say that the use of quartzite is unsual for the Late Period and offer a Ptolemaic date. However, this is not the case and it is a stone used for sculpture from the Old Kingdom onwards (see I. Shaw and P. Nicholson (eds.)' Ancient Materials and Technology', pp. 53-4)
