Seated Goddess Roma with Romulus and Remus (Album I)
WAG 1995.125
Information
These figures are by an unknown 16th-century artist and are a copy of the left side of the facade of the Palazzo Gaddi, Rome. The copy was either made directly from the Palazzo or from Perino del Vaga's large copy drawing of the same facade made after 1538 (now in the Detroit Institute of Arts, 1966.398). The original facade was painted by Polidoro da Caravaggio (about 1499-about 1543) just before 1527 but not longer exists. The drawing's style is similar to that of Battista Franco (before 1510-1560) but is not thought to be by him.
