Self Portrait

Information
The most difficult objects Wedgwood ever made were the tablets produced for the artist George Stubbs. Stubbs wanted to paint in enamel colours which could then be fired so that, unlike oils, they would never fade. The tablets represent one of the artistic and technical high points of the Industrial Revolution.
Lever purchased this portrait in 1905 as part of the Tweedmouth Collection of Wedgwood ware, believing it was a portrait of Josiah Wedgwood. It is now believed to be a self portrait of George Stubbs.
