Serving Dish

Information

Oval-shaped dish with sides that curve outwards towards the rim. Handmade, modelled with the fingers. Possibly pressed over a core. Scored with incised lines that run right up to the rim which seems to suggest a serving dish, based on the idea of serving food on palm fronds (comment by Dr Steven Snape, 27 January 2016). From the University of Liverpool 1906 excavations at Abydos. John Garstang noted this was "found in the redeem" of grave 347 A'07. Within the Garstang Museum of Archaeology are photographs of the dish taken during the 1906 excavations at Abydos (negative nos. A.166 and A.167).
