Sewing Machine

Many families' lives were blown apart by the turmoil of the Second World War. Anny Foa fled anti-Jewish persecution in Italy in 1939. She married another Italian, Dr Calma, in London and they moved to Liverpool in 1946. This sewing machine was used by three generations of the Foa family in Italy before Anny brought it to Liverpool. She used it to make the couple's daughter's wedding dress for her marriage at Princes Road Synagogue in 1970.
