Shabti

Mummiform shabti wearing a plain tripartite wig that is outlined in black, and coated in green wax. The arms are crossed right over left on the chest, and the hands hold a pair of hoes that are added in black paint. The arms and hands are outlined in black and covered in green wax. The hoes are also covered with green wax. Two vertical lines extending the length of the body are similarly treated. The face is poorly worked with the only detail being the eyes and brows that are painted in black and covered in green wax. There is a faint trace of red wax on the face that was probably used to show the mouth. The back of the shabti is simply shaped, and the feet are hardly shown. In its form, and with the use of green and red wax, the figure closely resembles those known as ‘contours perdus’ shabtis. Recorded as being from Esna Tomb 128 E'05, along with another "alabaster shabti decorated with crude green glaze" [now in the Garstang Museum of Archaeology, the University of Liverpool no. E1671].
