Shabti

Fragment of a mummiform shabti wearing a plain tripartite wig and divine beard. The arms are crossed right over left on the chest, and the hands emerge from a shroud to hold a pick in the left, and a hoe in the right. A round-bottomed basket is carried behind the left shoulder. The figure is supported by a dorsal pillar with a horizontal notch defining the bottom of the rear lappet of the wig. Although the shabti does not bear an inscription, it has very similar characteristics to others from a burial group of figures belonging to a man called Pahati, the son of Nebetwedjat, who was buried in the necropolis at Qau el-Kebir (known in ancient Greek records as Antaeopolis 'city of Antaeus'). Compare with UC 19659 in the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, University College London. Also, within World Museum, are two shabtis of the same type: 56.22.389 and 56.22.392.
