Box from a model of a coffin that may have contained a shabti, reproducing in miniature a style of coffin popular in the Second Intermediate Period and early New Kingdom. Rectangular with well carved out interior. Brownish pink pottery with a white wash and painted with yellow horizontal bands and representation of a false door. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 26 June - 6 July 1922 (MacGregor Collection) Lot 1684/9: "A sandstone Brick with inscription, found at Esna in 1906; also two terra-cotta Masks with human faces, and three model Mummy-coffins". CONDITION NOTE (1988): Incomplete, no lid, cracking, pitted, chipped, surface dirt, label adhered to base.
