Lid from a model of a coffin that may have contained a shabti, reproducing in miniature a style of coffin popular in the Second Intermediate Period and early New Kingdom. Rectangular with a vaulted top and upturned ends. Brownish pink pottery with a white wash. Box (1973.1.466) and Lid (1973.1.468) may belong together. Purchased at Sotheby's, London, 26 June - 6 July 1922 (MacGregor Collection) Lot 1684/9: "A sandstone Brick with inscription, found at Esna in 1906; also two terra-cotta Masks with human faces, and three model Mummy-coffins". CONDITION NOTE (1988): Incomplete, one end missing and no base, pitted, remnants of pigmentation, chipped edges, surface dirt.
