Shabti of Ankh–es–en–mut

Upper part of a mummiform shabti wearing a plain tripartite wig painted black. A pair of small breasts are faintly indicated in the modelling just below the front lappets of the wig. The arms, which are well–modelled, are crossed right over left above the waist, and the hands hold a pair of small hoes modelled in relief and painted black, although the colour is somewhat faded. A rectangular basket is painted on the back. Carrying straps are faintly evident. The face is mediocre in its modelling. Eyes with brows are painted black although the colour is rather faded. A vertical column of inscription on the front names the owner as Ankh–es–en–Mut. The shabti is from Abydos, Cemetery D. It is unclear whether it was found in tomb 1, 14B or 14C. Shabtis for Ankh–es–en–Mut are noted by Mace as being found in tombs 1 and 14B, while Aston says others were found in tomb 14C. Unfortunately no title is given in Mace’s ‘Table of Private Names’ which may have clarified the provenance. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Incomplete, worn, surface loss, surface dirt. Transliteration and translation of the inscription: Wsir nb.t-pr anx.s-n-Mw.t mAa.t-xrw, "The Osiris, the Lady of the House, Ankh–es–en–Mut, justified".
