Shawl or Phulkari

A phulkari or embroidered shawl. The base of the shawl is madder red coloured coarse, handspun cotton, onto which is embroidered in a geometric pattern in gold and orange coloured floss silk, The cloth is almost completely covered, only thin lines of fabric are visible creating the chevron and diamond patterns. The shawl is made from three lengths of cotton that were sewn together before the embroidery was done.
