Half of a bivalve shell. Most likely to have been used in the preperation of cosmetic products.
1 of 10 shells from area M1 S - the Predynastic settlement near Mahasna. Part of a group of material that includes pottery, pottery spindle whorls, 3 bone pins and other miscellaneous items. The region examined by John Garstang's team in this 1900-1901 season was about ten miles in length, encompassing the villages of Alawniyeh at one end and Bet Khallaf on the other, with el-Mahasna in between.
