Sherd

Fragment broken from a vessel. Decorated with moulded impression showing a male figure thought to be Hermes, emissary and messenger of the gods. A style of pottery vessel characteristic of Hellenistic culture and likely to have been imported into Meroë from the Mediterranean. Marked on the back in pencil 285 and in black ink GN204.
