Fragment broken from a ceramic container - a pyxis. Painted decoration and around the wall of the vessel moulded impression showing two figures and animals. One male figure attacking a beast is thought to be Heracles. A style of pottery vessel characteristic of Hellenistic culture and likely to have been imported into Meroë from the Mediterranean. Marked on the back in pencil 289.
