Image shows Nigerian men loading bales of cotton onto an Elder Dempster ship bound for Liverpool. Original caption on verso reads: "The raw cotton, purchased from the natives, is brought into Lokoja to be ginned and baled, preperatory to being shipped down river to Forcados en route for Liverpool per Elder Dempster steamer." From the collection of William John Roberts, Liverpool-born merchant for The Lagos Stores, Ltd. Based in Nigeria, 1912-1914.
