Information

24-year-old Stephen Williams attended the Liverpool v Nottingham Forest FA Cup semi-final at Hillsborough Stadium, Sheffield on 15 April 1989. He was in the Leppings Lane end where serious over-crowding led to a fatal crush. After suffering a near-death experience in the crush, which untimately resulted in 97 deaths and 766 injuries, he awoke in hospital. In the days following the disaster, he and other survivors were visited in hospital by Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the Liverpool squad who presented Stephen with this signed shirt. He very kindly donated it to the Museum in 2021.
