Sir John Moores Everton Scarf
MOL LI 48/2021
Information
Workers at Littlewoods Pools knitted this Everton FC scarf for Sir John Moores CBE.
Having made his fortune at the Littlewoods football-betting empire, he developed a mail-order catalogue, and opened stores. He soon became one of Britain's richest men. During the 1930s, he also funded a short-lived professional baseball league.
In March 1960, John Moores gave up his role as chairman of the pools business to become a director of Everton Football Club. By 1961, he was their chairman, revitalising the club.
