Sketch For Clytie

This small sketch was probably made in Rome for one of the artist's last paintings. Deserted by Apollo, Clytie kneels by his altar and looks up to the Sun to assure him of her love. The artist was making studies for Clytie in October 1895 while staying with Giovanni Costa in the Palazzo Odescalchi, Rome.
