Skirt

A skirt (piupiu) made from New Zealand Flax with a fringe of unstripped, undyed, cylindrical leaf tags in a yellow-gold colour. There is no backing section to the fringe. The tassels are plaited into a waistband, which has plaited ties at each end. The technique used is single-pair twining, with one 'weft' (aho). The tags ends form the waistband plait and have their ends cut off at the back.
