Sleeping Boy

Richard Rothwell was primarily a portrait painter and studio assistant to Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830). This drawing may be a study for a portion of a finished painting, or it may be an exercise in sketching, or it may have been a drawing of one of Rothwell's children. It was originally collected by Joseph Mayer (1803-1886), a Liverpool collector and antiquarian.
