Snake's Head Amulet

Amulet in the form of a cobra, with head raised to strike. Worn to ward off snakebites and mentioned in Spell 34 of the Book of the Dead. There is a suspension loop at the end with carved lines for decoration. Exquisite workmanship. The Book of the Dead advised priests where to place amulets on the mummified dead and what spells to be read out to activate the magical qualities of amulet. Amulets in the shape of a snake head were to be placed on the neck to gave protection against snakebites. Small sticker on the end with the number '90' (James Currie's collection number). Marked in ink with the former number 21.941.
