Information

The soap sculpture in this cartoon replaces a clock in the middle of the main hall at the Lady Lever Gallery, created by Jean Romilly around 1765-70 (LL 4464). The clock is in the shape of a globe, held up by three putti standing on a pedestal. Larry has transformed the clock into a bar of soap, referring to the product that made Lord Leverhulme wealthy. This is one of a group of cartoons Larry produced, satirising politics and current events through works in the collection of National Museums Liverpool.
