Sphenodon punctatus (Gray, 1842)

Large lizard with huge head, medium-sized laterally compressed tail and stout limbs, each bearing five claws, a crest of short horny projections runs down the back from the head to the tail. Light brown or grey in colour with dense yellow spots. Length 36-61 cm.
