Square vase, tapering towards the base, decorated on the four sides, and also on the neck, with large hawthorn trees, the blossoms of which are in white with yellow centres, the trunks aubergine. Perched on branches, and flying, are numerous small birds in green, yellow, and white. At each corner of the shoulder is a spray of flowers in various colours. The whole on a black enamel background. Supported on carved wood stand. Mark of the Jiajing period (1522-1566 AD), but the vase is of Kangxi date or 19th century.
