Information

Over life-size wooden left foot. The front is naturalistically formed with an applied thin layer of plaster which is painted red with a layer of varnish. This is perhaps from a statue rather than an anthropoid (human-shaped) coffin. A projecting piece of wood (tenon) on the flat edge is made for insertion into a mortise cut into another piece of the foot, with the complete sculpture being pegged in place from parts during the manufacture process. A white label is adhered to the back marked in pencil "GA DUP 18". New Kingdom? CONDITION NOTE (1998): Incomplete, dry, splitting, chipped, loss of pigment, fill? base of toes (underneath) labels adhered to surface.
