"The Stonebreaker" painted by John Brett [1831-1902] in 1857-8 is in the Walker Art Gallery collection. The boy in the painting is knapping flints for road-making. The view is that of the Mole Valley, Surrey, and on the left corner there is a milestone marked "LONDON 23."
