Information

Dilly bag. This is a rare twined bag from Tasmania. Aboriginal people in Tasmania used such bags for purposes such as holding food or possessions. The Aboriginal population in Tasmania diminished rapidly after the British invaded their lands, beginning in 1803 near present day Hobart. Many Aborigines were shot or died from introduced diseases. Bags such as this are part of the precious heritage of today’s Aboriginal people of Tasmania.
