Study for an allegorical female figure
WAG 6171
Information
This drawing may possibly have been a study for the fresco in the Palazzo Farnese, Rome. It is also close in style to a drawing of Tarquin and Lucretia in the Louvre.
Salviati was a Mannerist painter from Florence, and a pupil of Andrea del Sarto. He lived in both Rome and Venice and was one of the leading fresco decorators of his day. He specialised in learned and elaborate multi-figure compositions and similar to those of Vasari.
