A Study for 'Carthage: Aeneas at the Court of Dido'

This watercolour is a study for a larger and more finished watercolour, 'Carthage: Aeneas at the Court of Dido', by the same artist and also in the Walker Art Gallery's collection (WAG 2221). The larger painting was completed in 1826 and this watercolour probably just predates it. The subject matter was probably inspired by JMW Turner's Carthaginian subjects of 1814 - 1817.
