WAG 8588

Information

This is a study for the finished painting 'Perseus and Andromeda', in the Walker Art Gallery’s collection. Perseus and his mission to kill the Medusa was one of the most popular legends in the Victorian era. Perseus was ordered to fetch the head of the Gorgon Medusa, whose gaze turned her victims to stone. On his return, he rescued Andromeda from a sea monster and fell in love with her.
