Sword and Scabbard

A Bhutanese sword with a single edged blade of iron. There appears to have originally been some striaitions on the blade, but heavy polishing has reduced their visibility. The pommel is made from silver and is decorated with an embossed border and dorjes, attached to this is a woolen tablet woven tape in strips of blue, red, yellow, green and white. The wooden handle is wrapped with white shagreen with a border of canvas covered in red wax. The scabbard is wooden, covered with stitched leather which is lacquered black, the top quarter lacquered in red. Tied around the top of the scabbard is a leather strap secured with a gilt metal clasp.
