Information

Haughton studied at the Royal Academy Schools in 1790. He moved to Liverpool in the 1790s and became a protégé of William Roscoe (1753 -1831). His father was Moses Haughton the elder (1735-1804), a miniature and portrait painter. Little else is known about Haughton's life. In this drawing and others like it, he appears to have been influenced by the caricaturists James Gillray (1756 - 1815) and Thomas Rowlandson (1757 - 1827), although the intention of this drawing is not immediately clear.
