Table cloth

MOL.2013.3.1

Information

This table cloth is a tribute to Jewish refugees, living in Merseyside, who escaped Nazi persecution across Europe during the Second World War. Dr Sylvia Jayson lovingly embroidered all of their names. Some refugees were evacuated here as children; many leaving family members behind who sadly did not survive. The first name that Sylvia embroidered was her husband, Prof Gerald Jayson (Gert Jacobowski) in June 2002, and the last, Fay Healey, Danzig in December 2012. The refugees were united over the past 10 years via the Liverpool group of The Association of Jewish Refugees. The tablecloth was very kindly donated to the Museum by Sylvia on behalf of the Association to ensure that their stories are never forgotten.
