Tablet

LL 1689

Information

A blue jasper tablet with white jasper applied decoration. The decoration depicts a ewer about to be poured over a flaming brazier as a sacrifice to the god Bacchus. The decoration would have been formed in a mould before applying it to the blue jasper tablet. A similar tablet to this was installed in Catherine the Great's bedroom (1729-1796) in Russia. Wedgwood sold his pottery to the rich in Russia through an agent in St. Petersburg.
