Terracotta Dog



A hollow terracotta figure of a Sothic dog, modelled in the round. The tail tightly curled and it wears a collar. The Sothic dog of Isis was connected with the dog star, Sirius, and associated with the New Year and the annual inundation of the Nile. A small firing-vent is pierced on its under the belly.
