Ivory disc incised on one side with a head wearing a nemes headdress, like a pharaoh. Pierced through the centre. Discs like this were used as tokens for admission to a theatre. Theatre was an essential feature of Greek culture, and imported into Egypt under the Ptolemies. This token was comes from the colection of Joseph Mayer, presumably purchased from Joseph Sams in 1850. CONDITION NOTE 1998: Scratched surface, worn, surface dirt.
