Thein Church, Prague
WAG 1996.23
Information
Prout travelled around Europe extensively after 1820. He exhibited sketches and watercolours of the places he visted each year at the Old Watercolour Society, including views of France, Italy and Bohemia. He began to publish groups of his continental views as lithograph drawings in 1824. This work is taken from a printed collection of his sketches of Flanders and Germany that was published in 1833.
Prout had advertised the planned publication in July 1832 and financed its printing through subscriptions. The folio was produced by Charles Joseph Hullmandel's (1789 - 1850) printing press the following year with the title 'Facsimiles of Sketches made in Flanders and Germany'. 'Thein Church, Prague' was number 49 in the collection of 50.
