Time

This figure is the personification of Time, here depicted as an old man with wings and an hourglass to symbolise the passage of time. The tablet in his right hand is inscribed with a line from the Odes of the Roman poet, Horace: Eheu Fugaces Labuntur Anni (“Alas! The years slip swiftly by”).
