Transgender Pride Flag

This flag was the first Transgender Pride Flag to be flown above Liverpool Town Hall for Transgender Day of Remembrance, 20 November 2014. Transgender Day of Remembrance pays tribute to those who have been murdered because of transphobia and focuses attention on the continued violence experienced by the trans community worldwide. Transgender Day of Remembrance was commemorated across the city in 2014, including at the Museum of Liverpool where wreaths were laid in the April Ashley: Portrait of a Lady exhibition by representatives from the Museum of Liverpool, Merseyside Police and the local trans community. The flag was presented to National Museums Liverpool at a special ceremony at Liverpool Town Hall on 29 April 2015, when Liverpool born transgender pioneer and campaigner, April Ashley MBE was presented with a Citizen of Honour Award to mark the occasion of her 80th birthday. Transgender Day of Remembrance continues to be commemorated each year at the Museum of Liverpool.
