Black and white postcard titled "'Transhipping off the African Coast". Published by Moyea Series, London. Image no. 190. Image shows a European woman being lowered in a canvas chair alongside a ship, assisted by European and Black men. Original caption on verso reads, "There are no piers or jetties on the Coast. The steamers 'drop anchor' in the open seas. Passengers are lowered in 'Mammy chairs' into the surf boat en route to the shore, or for tanshippment into Branch Service Boats." From the collection of William John Roberts, Liverpool-born merchant for The Lagos Stores, Ltd. Based in Nigeria, 1912-1914.
