The Triumph of the Innocents: study for the Christ-child on the Virgin's lap

WAG 6595

Information

This is a study for the figure of the Christ child in Hunt's painting 'The Triumph of the Innocents', in the Walker Art Gallery's collection. The position of the child suggests it is turning to look at the procession in the painting. However, Hunt clearly abandoned this position for the final painting, perhaps because it looks so uncomfortable.
