Colour woodblock print with black background. Ukiyo-e print depicting a kabuki actor playing the role of Takeda Katsuyori, a feudal lord of the Sengoku era, in the popular five-act historical drama "Honchou Nijyushiko", 24 Models of Filial Piety.
Two lines of black text run vertically along the right hand side of the print and are read from top to bottom and from right to left. Line one reads "Honchou Nijyushiko", and line two reads "Takeda Katsuyori".
This print shows the actor playing Takeda Katsuyori, the fourth son of the powerful feudal lord Takeda Shingen, in brighly-coloured kimono and wearing two samurai swords. He holds a black decorative box tied with a red cord. The print is likely to have connections with print DP Temp 3984.
The black text in the bottom left hand corner reads "Sadanobu" and refers to the artist Hasegawa Sadanobu III (1881-1963), also known as Konobu III (artist name). The seal in the bottom left hand corner is of the Uchida Woodblock Printing Company in Kyoto.
