Under the Hammer

Bevan loved horses and they were the subject of most of his paintings. This picture of a horse fair includes Bevan and his daughter Edith, in the centre, and his wife Stanislawa, on the left. He admired the work of Paul Gauguin and the Post-Impressionist painters. Like them he used flat blocks of solid colour and strong outlines in his paintings.
