MLL.2006.26

Information

This painting shows the impact of unemployment in Liverpool and how people campaigned for the right to work from the 1920s until the 1980s. Blackburne House Women’s Project was set up, initially as the Women’s Technology and Education Centre, by Claire Dove who had faced racism in her hunt for a job in the 1980s. The centre features in the painting and has helped thousands of women with training and employment issues.
