Utter and Rot (Costume Designs for 'Fifinella')

This watercolour painting features two costume designs by George W. Harris (1978-1929) for the parts of 'Utter' and 'Rot' in the play 'Fifinella'. 'Fifinella' was a children's Christmas play, co-produced and directed by Basil Dean (1888-1978) of the Liverpool Repertory Theatre and Barry Jackson (1879-1961) of the Birmingham Repertory theare. The play was first produced in Birmingham in 1912 and then came to Liverpool in 1913. Harris worked closely with Dean throughout his career as an artist, producing many costume and set designs for Dean's plays.
